What is PET Plastic?
PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate), also known as PETE, PETP, or PET-P, is a thermoplastic polymer belonging to the polyester family with the chemical formula (C₁₀H₈O₄). First discovered in 1941 by the Calico Printer’s Association in Manchester, PET was later introduced in bottle production in 1973 by Nathaniel Wyeth, marking a breakthrough in plastic packaging.
Renowned for its transparency, durability, lightweight nature, water resistance, and safety in food contact, PET has become one of the most widely used materials in packaging. It is commonly applied in the production of beverage bottles, detergent containers, caps, food packaging, and various consumer products. Moreover, PET is highly recyclable, making it an environmentally friendly material and a key choice in modern packaging solutions.
